Game Cancellations Policy

Game Cancellations Policy

Effective Date: April 1, 2018

GENERAL INFORMATION

GSSA is committed to the wellbeing of our players and parents. The GSSA Field Commissioners will make the decision as to field status by 4 p.m. on weekdays; by 7:30 a.m. on Saturdays and by 10 a.m. on Sundays. Storm conditions, lightning, and extreme temperature typically factor into the decisions. Please check the website prior to your game. DON'T assume that your game is cancelled until the website says the field is closed!

Cancelled games are NOT guaranteed to be rescheduled.

GSSA field status will be posted at gssasoccer.org (bottom of main page and also on Game Day/Fields tab).

You can also get field status updates on:

·         Website: gssasoccer.org

·         Facebook: www.facebook.com/GrapevineSouthlakeSoccerAssociation

·         Twitter: @SoccerGSSA

For games at non-GSSA locations, check the field status of the association where the game is scheduled. Links to NMCSL association sites are available on the Game Day tab of the GSSA site.

Be aware that field closure at various fields may vary by association.

COLD WEATHER

GSSA will cancel or postpone any game in which the temperature is below 38 degrees. At 7 a.m. on game days, GSSA will make a determination and post online whether the association will:

·         Cancel all games prior to noon at GSSA field or

·         Cancel all games for the entire day at GSSA fields

In the event of cold weather higher than 38 degrees players are allowed to wear additional clothing under the uniform.

Examples of acceptable additional clothing are: Long sleeves, long pants, extra socks, gloves or mittens, stocking caps (without straps), jackets, headbands (to cover ears).

Unacceptable additional clothing items are:  Hooded sweatshirts, ear muffs (with plastic or metal pieces), scarves. Final decision for allowing a player to play rest with the referees and GSSA officials.

HOT WEATHER

At any game in which the temperature is 95 degrees or higher – or at the request of both coaches – mandatory 2-minute water breaks will be given during each half of play for age groups in U9 and up. U8 and under play quarters therefore already have a three-minute break after first and third quarters.

DURING GAMES

Cancelling the game is left to the center referee once the game is in progress. Games cancelled after the second half begins is considered final and will not be made up. Games cancelled before the second half begins will be rescheduled when possible.
