MONDAY NIGHT SKILLS

Free Skills training for registered GSSA players

When/Where

Mondays from 6:30-7:30 at the Oak Grove Soccer Complex, for 8 weeks, beginning the first Monday after the season starts.
Monday Night Skills for the Spring 2018 season has concluded but will return in Fall 2018.

Who is skills for?

Registered players on U6 through U12 age group teams are eligible participants in this skills session

Our Saturday Mini Jogo training will provide age-appropriate skills training with the U4 and U5 group teams

Parents may attend and GSSA coaches are encouraged to help out.

Why should players attend?

For some coaches, this is an opportunity to learn drills to do with their teams. For others, it is an opportunity to have someone (besides yourself) offer instruction to your team.

The training is done in a “stations” format, allowing players to work on several different skills in one night. Also, for those looking for a second night to practice with their team, this provides a great solution to gain instruction time without having to get a second practice time/reservation. These skills are very similar to what our advance Academy teams learn on their skills night, creating a more versatile player!

If I attend as a coach, what will I do?

Thunder FC's competitive coaches run these sessions and when you arrive, they will direct you to a station with instructions for running a particular drill. You will have approximately five rotations of players that drill with you over the course of one hour.

This will perfect your knowledge of that drill and how to best implement it with you team. Ideally you would switch drills each Monday night, giving you a larger variation of drills to do with your team!

Can my team move through the drills as a unit?

Of course!  They may have extra kids with them, but we try to keep the kids with similar age children!  The number of stations and drills is highly dependent on the number of volunteers!

We need your participation to make this program a success!  We need coaches to come out and run stations.  While your team moves through the stations and experience different coaches, you will learn a drill and run a station.  It is much easier to get the kids to listen to the person in charge of the station if their coach is not there.
