Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update

To our GSSA family,

We are all hearing more and more news about Coronavirus (COVID-19) – and I assure you that the leadership of Grapevine Southlake Soccer Association (GSSA) has been monitoring news, reviewing the Center for Disease Control (CDC) recommendations, and communicating with North Texas Soccer (NTSSA) and the cities of Grapevine and Southlake.

As we care about the health and safety of all players and families, we are committed to keeping you up to date as actions are being taken to minimize the spread of COVID-19.

We are well aware of announcements over the past few days of unprecedented closings by colleges and universities, Major League Sports, NCAA, as well as large event cancellations and social distancing measures to prevent the spread of infectious disease. While it’s possible that cancellations may, at some point, be necessary for GSSA, for now, GSSA will continue its season as scheduled. Again, the situation is continuing to develop and we’re continuing to monitor and reassess it. (Please note that as a parent, it’s always your decision as to whether or not it’s in your family’s best interest to participate in or attend GSSA practices or games.)

In the meantime, we encourage all our teams to use common sense measures. The best way to prevent illness is to avoid being exposed to this virus.

Thus we ask each of you to follow the CDC recommendations of everyday preventive actions to help prevent the spread of respiratory diseases, including:

  • Wash hands regularly with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
  • Stay home when you or family members are sick.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.
  • Follow CDC’s recommendations for using a facemask.
    • CDC does not recommend that people who are well wear a facemask to protect themselves from respiratory diseases, including COVID-19.
    • Facemasks should be used by people who show symptoms of COVID-19 to help prevent the spread of the disease to others.

In addition, GSSA is recommending the following procedures be observed:

  • Players should notify their coach of any travel to areas with widespread or ongoing community spread, and GSSA asks that they stay home for a period of 14 days from the time you left the area.
  • Any players, parents, or supporters with any symptoms should not to attend competition or training.
  • Players should bring their own individual water or Gatorade to games and practices to eliminate potential transmission risk from sharing cups and water stations.
  • Eliminate high fives, fist pumps, chest bumps, huddles, group celebrations, etc.
  • Have hand sanitizer available for players on the bench throughout the game (at least 60% alcohol).
  • Wipe down benches pre- and post-game with disinfectant antiviral wipes.

Again, we are monitoring the situation daily and will notify you if and when any additional precautions might be taken.

Thank you.
